Salt printing is one of the earliest photographic printing processes on paper, introduced in the 1830s and 1840s through the experiments of William Henry Fox Talbot. The process produces a photographic image directly within the fibres of the paper, giving salt prints their characteristic softness, warm tonal range, and tactile quality.
LEARN salt printing WITH 2M ZONE
At 2M ZONE, salt printing is taught through direct experience and hands-on practice. Participants are introduced to the complete workflow — from preparing and sensitising the paper to working with negatives, exposure, processing, fixing, and finishing the final print.
The workshop focuses on understanding how paper, chemistry, light, and the photographic negative work together to form an image. Participants gain practical knowledge of the process while learning how to control its tonal qualities and continue experimenting independently.
WORKSHOP FORMAT
Group Workshop
Designed for small groups, the workshop provides a practical introduction to the salt printing process.
Participants will:

– EXPOSE, PROCESS, FIX, AND FINISH THEIR OWN SALT PRINTS
– EXPLORE HOW PAPER, EXPOSURE, AND CHEMISTRY AFFECT THE FINAL IMAGE
– CREATE AND TAKE HOME THEIR OWN HANDMADE SALT PRINTS

Intensive One-to-One Education
For photographers and artists seeking a deeper understanding of salt printing, we offer individual intensive training.
The programme is tailored to the participant’s experience and interests and explores the complete process in greater depth, including chemistry, paper selection and preparation, negative density, sensitising, exposure control, processing, fixing, toning, troubleshooting, and archival considerations.
PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE DETAILED GUIDANCE, TECHNICAL SUPPORT, AND ACCESS TO RECIPES AND RESOURCES NECESSARY FOR CONTINUING THE PROCESS INDEPENDENTLY.

No previous experience with salt printing or analogue photography is required.
